WhatsApp for schools, nurseries and training centres

Parents read WhatsApp and do not read the portal. The subtlety is that the person receiving the message is usually not the person the message is about, which changes what consent means.

What you send, and what it counts as

The category decides everything else: the price, whether it reaches somebody who opted out, and the criteria it is reviewed against.

MessageCategoryWhat that means
Absence, early pickup, incidentUtilityTime-critical and expected. Reaches everybody.
Fee due, fee receivedUtilityA payment reminder about an existing obligation, not a promotion.
Open day, new term enrolmentMarketingEven to existing parents, if it is unprompted.

Consent belongs to the parent, not the school

A parent who opts out of marketing still receives absence notifications — that is a utility message about their own child. But a school that treats an enrolment form as blanket consent for promotional messages is the school that receives the complaint. Zanii records each opt-out as a signed consent receipt with a timestamp, which is the artefact you produce rather than an assurance you give.

The double braces are variables WhatsApp fills per recipient. Meta rejects a template whose numbering has gaps, and Zanii catches that before you submit it.

Common questions

Can we message parents in Arabic and English from one number?
Yes. A template is approved per language, so the same message exists as an Arabic version and an English one under the same name, and the platform sends whichever matches the parent. The AI assistant answers in whichever language the parent writes in, without being told to switch.
Does TDRA apply to these messages?
Bulk commercial messaging to UAE numbers is governed by the TDRA. Senders must be registered and honour opt-out; Zanii records every opt-out as a signed consent receipt.
